| Girl Scout Troop 6649, from New Richmond, Ohio, is celebrating another successful year of cookie sales. The 10 girls worked very hard this year selling cookies. They are especially proud of the fact that they received donations for 756 boxes of cookies to be sent to Iraq for our troops. If you bought Girl Scout Cookies this year you might have seen Troop 6649, because they were all over the area selling cookies. They have been sending cookies to Iraq for the past 4 years and it is one of the highlights of the year for them to see how many packages of cookies they can send to the troops. They love to hear from the soldiers and how it brightened their day to receive the cookies. Some have sent pictures of them holding up their boxes of cookies. Some notified them that they wanted to meet them at their school so they could thank them in person. Each package is wrapped and decorated with patriotic pictures, poems, notes from people who know them, anything at all that might give them a little pleasure looking at them and reading them. Most of the soldiers have saved the wrappings and brought them home with them. The girls sell cookies in the rain, snow, freezing weather and some good days. This year Utter Construction has agreed to pay for the postage to send the packages. This is going to take a big burden off the troop because each case of cookies costs from $11.75 to $12.75 to mail and we have 63 cases! Now you might think it didn't take so long to sell 756 boxes of cookies for 10 girls, but that was just how many cookies were donated for Iraq, the girls sold just short of 10,000 boxes of cookies in order to get that many donated. That is a lot of cookies! | |
